Tuesday Tutorial - Dress up your Bookshelf

I sold my white bookshelf the other week before we moved and my friend and I were talking about how she wanted to put vinyl on the backside of the bookshelf to give it more depth and character. I thought that was such a cute idea.

Before:

After:

So if you have a bookshelf you want to dress up a bit or give a little more character or pizazz too, this is a great cheap and easy way to do it.

Before:

After:

I really think this would be great for a children's room or play room.

Monday's Inspiration - Mother's Day

I can't believe it is almost Mother's Day! I wanted last Saturday's Spotlight to be from a seller that I purchased a necklace from (but Saturday was over before I knew it :)

I ordered this necklace for my Mom for her birthday. It is so cute! It has my three kids names and their birthstones.
This is a great gift for a Mother or Grandmother who has everything.

We have moved

We just moved our office this last weekend. Things have been CRAZY!
I miss my best employee (and friend) Lisa (who also blogs here)
Thank goodness she will still be working for me from Utah!!!
Lisa has kept me sane through this last month of a whirlwind.

I found the spot today for the new Janey Mac headquarters.
It is an unfinished basement in the new house that we will be moving into.
Well the house isn't new (but it is new to us!)

I will post pictures as we work our way through setting up, decorating and organizing our new space!

Life has many adventures - It's time to embrace another one :)

You will be missed!

As I type this Lynnette has moved away and we never really got a chance for an offical goodbye.

So Lynnette, from all of your employees here in Southern Utah, namely me, goodbye for just a little while! And for your little man whom my boy loves so dearly....

Here is a big hug from us!

We will miss you!

Tuesday Tutorial: Etching glass

I tried glass etching when my husband and I were first married and it was a nightmare! I swore I would never do it again. But then I was introduced to etching with vinyl and its so easy and fast!

All you do is stick the vinyl on:
Brush the etching paste on and let it sit:

Rinse and your done!

Some of you may think you would never etch glass but there are some very practical purposes. One of my favorites is to personalize your glass baking dishes. You can etch your name on the bottom and never worry about losing your dishes again!

This would be such a useful and personalized wedding gift with the newlyweds monogram on the bottom. My favorite is this one.

You can also use this at Christmas time to etch on the simple glass bulbs that they carry at craft stores. You can make your own personalized ornaments that look professional! I have also seen a plain glass plate turned into a "Today is your Special Day" plate to be used on holidays and special occasions!

Jars, vases, mirrors, anything glass can now be personalized! Just remember that if you are ever going to use this technique you have to order the vinyl in reverse and weeded the opposite direction. You want the outline of the design, not the design itself.

Monday's Inspiration - Life's a Party

I ran across some cute Party pictures this weekend.
Pictures like these always make me happy and remind me to enjoy the little (and big) things in life.

These are from a new site I cam across (thanks to one of my customers)

My mom has always enjoyed throwing parties, and has taught me many wonderful ideas for hosting parties - I think they are so fun to plan and decorate for :)

Saturday Spotlight

Today's Saturday Spotlight is the Etsy store Karla DeCamp Photography.

Not only is her work really good but she takes pictures in the Northwest where I met my husband. Going to the tulip festival has always been one of my favorite things to do. When I saw her pictures I had to have some for our home. My husband (who does not shop) even went on and picked his favorite. Which happens to be this one:

So perfect in our spring decor!

I also thought this one was so romantic and wanted it for our bathroom.
I am in the process of redoing our boys room in a rustic and vintage trucks theme and had to have her Red Hot Gasoline for their dresser.

She even personalized this truck with their names.

My next purchase is a red shelf from Tai Pan to put it on.

She just put new pictures from this years tulip festival in her store. My two favorites are this one and this one. Check them out!

The House that Janey Built - Color Selections

I am going to start a new segment on our blog called -
'The House that Janey Built'

Janey Mac (the company) helps me to afford the fun new decor I like to constantly change for my home.

We just found out we are moving back to Boise - So every Saturday I will take you through the next phase of my decorating adventure.

To start the planning of my rooms I wanted to change up the color schemes for the rooms a bit.

My current Great Room is:
Copper, Dark Brown, Teal and Cream - classic
my new color scheme is:
Black, White, Aqua and accents of Red - Fun and hopefully turns out cute :)

Maybe something like this:

or this:

Playroom - theme and colors:
Theme - Dr Seuss, Animals and Whimsical (a little broad and random, I know:)
Colors - Barbie Pink, Geyser Blue and Key Lime Pie Green or yellow - and of course White to help balance those crazy colors.

These are my inspiration pictures:

I think I like the simplicity of this look:

Boys Bedroom -
Theme: Transportation
Colors: White, Navy Blue, Keylime Pie Green, Geyser Blue and accents of Persimmon

(I know this picture is of animals, but I like the color combo)

And that's all for now -
Taking on a new house and redecorating every room excites but overwhelms me!
